Warhammer 40K: Darktide does not currently support crossplay or cross-save

Must read

A game like Warhammer 40K: Darktide is best enjoyed with friends, so it’s natural to want as wide a pool as possible of potential co-op partners among your real life peeps. To that end, crossplay seems like a natural fit for a cooperative, PvE experience like Darktide.

Unfortunately, as of launch, there is no crossplay between Darktide on Game Pass and Steam. Fatshark says it’s coming in the future.

Will Warhammer: 40K Darktide have console crossplay?

At launch: No.

In fact, console crossplay is currently impossible for Darktide, because on launch day, November 30, it’s only available on PC. The console version still doesn’t have a release date.

Fatshark’s November 30 community update, the developer said “We will have more news on the Xbox Series X|S release date as soon as possible and likely immediately after the release on PC.” I’d bet on a February 2023 release—that would give Fatshark enough time to polish up the PC launch before focusing on the console version.

Will crossplay be added when the Xbox version arrives, then? That sounds likely. But cross-save may not.

“We see the value in cross-play and cross-save and fully intend to support cross-play shortly after launch,” Fatshark says. “Cross-save is more complex to execute and still being investigated.”

Does Warhammer 40K: Darktide have crossplay between Steam and Game Pass?

At launch: No. But there will be Steam – Game Pass crossplay “shortly after launch.”

Fatshark’s November 30 community update lays out the plan for crossplay:

“We see the value in cross-play and cross-save and fully intend to support cross-play shortly after launch. Cross-save is more complex to execute and still being investigated.”
